Consider me sold on the GermGuardian AC5000E. With the very flexible return policy through Amazon and having a house filled with way too much dust, this True HEPA Filter with UV Light has been a real work horse in cleaning up the house. Where is all the dust from? The recent kitchen remodel.
The GermGuardian AC5000E comes in a large box neatly packed in foam with an instruction manual. The instructions explain how to turn the device on and how to replace the True HEPA Filter and UV Light. I have read the reviews and yes the GermGuardian AC5000E does have a plastic odor when first turning on the True HEPA Filter. About 24 hours later, on the high setting, the plastic odor is just about gone and a lot of dust is already picked up. I wanted to see what happens without cleaning beforehand. Very noticeable as before I could look at the sunlight through a window and see a haze of nastiness. One day in and that haze was gone. This was a very impressive start.

Next was running two GermGuardian AC5000’s around the house. The master bedroom would have the device always in it while I moved the other unit room to room each day. About a week later and after some cleaning the dust is nearly gone. So much in fact that we were able to install a ZAGG InvisibleShield Glass for Apple iPhone 6 Plus on the kitchen counter, with no prep beforehand, and no dust catching underneath the screen protector.
I kept reading about the silly blue light when the UV is turned on. So here is a picture of what this looks like in a dark bedroom in the middle of the night. There is light, but its not bad at all. I don’t notice it. Would I put this next to my head? No, but I also don’t need the fans spinning next to my head either. The position is away from my feet.
What prompted me to finally post about the GermGuardian AC5000E is something really stupid that I decided to do. I saw our fireplace was dirty so I got out the shop vac and thought hey this looks like a good place to vacuum. Bzzt wrong! As soon as I started sucking up the ash, the ash shot out of the back of the shop vac. Low and behold I filled the room with ash. So much ash that I thought I was going to set the fire alarm off. Quickly I opened the windows and place the GermGuardian AC5000E closer to the fireplace and crossed my fingers. The resulting video shows how fast the True Hepa Filter pulls in the dust.

Nothing better than after clearing the room within about 10 minutes that I had to see just how clogged the True Hepa Filter would be. Not surprisingly the black color pre filter is nearly white and the main filter is also getting pretty dirty. After about two weeks of use plus the fireplace ash mishap the GermGuardian AC5000E is going strong. There is no plastic odor anymore. The gentle hum is barely noticeable while sleeping. And the house has lost that shimmering dust effect that I couldn’t stand any longer.
